Star Hill Baptist Church
Raymond Anthony Jetson was born on February 14, 1956, to Mary and the late Louis Jetson. (Pastor’s birth in the early hours of Valentine’s Day added excitement to an already highly celebrated day in the Jetson household since this was also his father’s birthday.) Raymond’s early years, experienced in the shadow of Star Hill’s previous location, were filled with church and family.
A product of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, he was an honor student, stellar athlete and class president. Drawn by the persona of the legendary coach Eddie Robinson, Pastor Jetson enrolled at Grambling and became a member of the football team. He later would return to Baton Rouge after an injury and attend Southern University. Filled with a youthful search for self and meaning in life, Raymond moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he lived for six years. In November 1982, he returned to Baton Rouge to support his father’s bid to for state representative.
